Works for Me Wednesday...

It's Works for Me Wednesday over at Rocks in my Dryer.

Here's what works for me when my garbage disposal is a little stinky:

Roughly 1/2 cup baking soda (I eyeball it)
Roughly 1/2 cup vinegar (I eyeball it)
Piece of citrus fruit, cut into quarters or just the peel
Handful of ice cubes

Pour the baking soda into the disposal, turn on disposal and pour in the vinegar. Let it set for a few seconds, then turn on cool water to flush it out. Drop in the fruit and ice cubes. The fruit is for scent and the ice cubes knock off the junk that gets stuck on the grinders in the disposal.

As a side note, I was alway nervous about the "blades" in the garbage disposal until I had to stick my hand down there and feel around for a missing cake decorating tip. Turns out the blades aren't blades at all! Just little grinders. I'm still terrified of chopping up my own hand though!

2 things to read...:

Great idea! I had always just used bleach. I'm going to have to try the fruit idea. It sounds like it would smell a whole lot better than bleach. :)
