Almost three weeks ago, the hubs and I embarked on a two-week road trip. I've been really hesistant to blog about it since there is just so much to talk about! It's going to take me quite a few days to post the stories and pictures, but they will all eventually make it up. Hubs actually sent an email to his friend summarizing the trip, so I'm borrowing Hubs summary and adding a few details! He's inspired me to get posting!
So, I’ll tell you about this vacation we took. It was over 2 weeks long, which was niiiiiice! We drove it all, 5000 miles and then some. Now that we are back and done with it, oil prices are crashing and gas is primed to go down. Funny how that works! Anyway, the first day we drove from Dallas to Sidney, Nebraska , which is in the central-western part of that state. A good 900-1000 miles away from Dallas . We got pulled over once, but Jesus was watching out for us since I only got a warning. We were only doing 77 in a 70, but this cop came barreling across the grass median as though he’d just seen a hit and run or something!
Nebraska was a new state to add to the list for me! We were a little nervous that Sidney would be a podunk town with no decent motels. Little did we know it's the headquarters for Cabela's so there were plenty of nice places! Since this was on July 3rd we got to see several fireworks shows from the highway! After a little hotel room hunting, we ended up at the Days Inn as a last resort (other motels were booked or more than we wanted to pay (and not so nice)). We ended up paying $63 for a totally awesome suite! The room was huge and had a lot of furniture...recliner (which I've never seen in a hotel room), table with chairs and a nice TV armoire. The absolute best part was when I walked into the bathroom and found a jetted tub! Just what my road weary body needed! I sat in the tub for quite a while, and even got up early the next morning to enjoy it again! The hotel had a nice continental breakfast too. This was definitely a great start to our extended vacation!
(Sorry the pics are out of order)
Great Platte River Road Archway An unexpected surprise on this last stretch of highway.
Random countryside...this could be Oklahoma, Kansas or Nebraska
The first Pony Express station.
The wonderful super relaxing tub!
Sod House.
Hubs likes to hold my pinkie.
I went to this ice cream shop almost five years ago during my first trip to Wichita, KS. We made a detour off the main highway for a turtle sundae and an Aspen snowball because it was so good that first time!
The Civic getting it's first oil change in Salina, KS.
Silly hubs! We have several pictures like this from the trip.
Welcome to Nebraska! There was a cute prairie dog hanging out under this sign! Shortly after this we had a nice meeting with a State Trooper.
We saw a lot of prairie countryside this day, and so many bales of hay! We started listening to a book on CD, a huge step for me because I do not like to be read to! I really enjoyed it though, and it made the monotnous parts of the drive more enjoyable. I also used my U-shaped travel pillow for the first time! Loved it! Tomorrow...Sidney, NE to Dubois, WY via Mount Rushmore!
